about

This track is named after the French philosopher, theologian and Christian anarchist Jacques Ellul, who is known for being very critical towards technology. It is also is inspired by Neil Postman I think.

lyrics

Once I could see through all of this
with my Ellulian glasses
but now I am enslaved again
been sitting behind the screen for too long
the world has trained me again
to wear hip and relevant glasses
our own creations are ruling our lives
while w amuse ourselves to death

we make a slave
from chips and plastic
we train him to do
the things we don't want to

we give our brains
to the computer
we give our strength
to the robots

Oh if I could see again through all of this
with my Ellulian glasses
to not be enslaved anymore
not sitting behind the screen like a zombie
let me open my eyes and dispose of
my hip and relevant glasses
our own creations are no more than they are
I won't amuse myself to death

in symbiosis
we evolve together
and all we learn
is to live using it

and then the bombs fall
and the barbarians
take away our toys
can we still live?

can we still live
and be alive
without help from
our machines

can we still live
and be alive
without technology
our supposed slave?

just to see again through all of this
with my Ellulian glasses
to not be enslaved anymore
not sitting behind the screen like a zombie
let me open my eyes and dispose of
my hip and relevant glasses
our own creations are no more than they are
I won't amuse myself to death
